Knowing how to clean your T2Kreations acrylic product correctly is the key to keeping it looking its best for years to come. Acrylic is available either clear or in many colours. It is a popular alternative to glass because it is clear, lightweight and impact resistant. Acrylic products are susceptible to scratches and abrasions as well as damage by some solvents. Therefore it is important to follow these guidelines for cleaning and protecting your acrylic items.
NEVER use ammonia based window cleaning fluids such as Windowlene, oil based products such a petrol or paraffin, denatured alcohol, carbon tetrachloride, or acetone, which will cause the acrylic to craze with minute cracks. Paper based products should also be avoided as these will leave scratches on the surface.
The best way to clean acrylic is with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and a microfiber cloth. However, IPA is not a common household product, so the tips below should be used where necessary.
The best alternative to IPA is…. A mild solution of soap or detergent and water.
- Begin by gently blowing away any loose dust or dirt from the source of your acrylic product.
- Apply the soap and water solution with a dampened non-abrasive lint-free soft cloth, microfiber cloth or cellulose sponge.
- Rinse well with clear, clean running water.
- Blot dry with a damp cellulose sponge or microfiber cloth to prevent water spotting.
